New Report on Workplace Productivity

Screen time up?
Consider blue-light glasses.

A recent report from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business confirms what many of us already suspect: daily screen time is on the rise. For many people, working and learning from home means more time looking at smartphones, computer screens, and televisions. While these devices keep us connected and allow us to work from home, the blue light emitted by screens can disrupt sleep and productivity. Fortunately, an easy solution exists. Cristiano L. Guarana, one of the authors of the paper, notes, “We found that wearing blue-light filtering glasses is an effective intervention to improve sleep, work engagement, task performance and organizational citizenship behavior, and reduced counterproductive work behavior.” These findings appear in “The Effects of Blue-Light Filtration on Sleep and Work Outcomes.” If you’re feeling restless at night, have trouble concentrating on work, or spend more time using screens than normal, a pair of blue-light glasses could improve your sleep and productivity.

The right chair for the job

In addition to blue-light glasses, the right chair can increase workplace productivity. An ergonomic chair helps boost productivity in two ways. First, being comfortable at work allows you to focus and reduces fatigue, leading to a more accurate and efficient workday. Second, an ergonomic chair can help reduce the risk of injury, such as repetitive stress strains or muscle pain caused by poor posture. The proper support can reduce the odds of workplace injury and absenteeism.

Stand up for productivity

For another ergonomic addition to your office, consider the benefits of electric height adjustable desks. Also called standing desks or sit-stand desks, these electric height adjustable tables allow you to work at the proper height and to work while standing up. Prolonged sitting can be a risk factor for numerous health conditions. A standing desk allows you to move around and be more active while working, and it can boost your productivity while you’re at it. Our Performance Height Adjustable Table Guide tells you everything you need to know about setting up a Performance electric adjustable desk.
