Winter in Canada can be long and cold. However, participating in winter activities and going out in the community can make the season more enjoyable. Here at
Source Saskatoon we’ve compiled a list of winter activities to keep you busy during the chilly months.
Go Outside
Summer isn’t the only season where you can enjoy the outdoors. Saskatoon has plenty trails and parks to keep you active all year long.
Meewasin Park is a Natural parkland offering hiking trails, sculptures, grassy areas and picnic facilities by the river.
Explore the natural habitat along the riverbank, and discover culture at museums and interpretive sites along the trail. The trail runs over 80km, so there’s plenty to see and do! Bring your family and friends together for an afternoon of skating at the
Cameco Meewasin Skating Rink. This rink has the best skating views in Saskatoon, located on the edge of the South Saskatchewan River valley in the heart of downtown. The welcoming space features an outdoor skating rink, fire pit, warm up lodge, skates to borrow, and twinkling lights.
Snowshoeing is also a popular winter activity. Check out this
list of popular snowshoeing spots in Saskatoon and get active. You may be surprised how much of a workout it is!
Shop Local
Winter is a great time to browse local stores and restaurants. If you’re looking for fresh produce and local goods, visit the
Saskatoon Farmers Market. Founded in 1975, the year-round Saskatoon Farmers’ Market
connects Saskatoon residents and visitors with the producers of high quality and local agricultural products, baking, prepared foods, crafts, and diverse goods. The Saskatoon Farmers’ Market is also member-owned, and a non-profit cooperative. You can also support local businesses by visiting Saskatoon’s selection of shops and restaurants. Check out this
list of local places to stop by while you’re out and about in Saskatoon.
Visit a Museum
Take advantage of the dreary weather to spend some time indoors. Take a step back in time this winter and visit the
Western Development Museum. The WDM is the largest human history museum in Saskatchewan with a collection of nearly 80,000 artifacts. With numerous
exhibits such as Boomtown Street, the transportation gallery, and fuelled by innovation, there’s something for every generation and member of the family. Saskatoon is also home to a variety of unique museums including the
Ukrainian Museum of Canada,
Remai Modern art museum, and the
Museum of Natural Sciences.
Attend a Sports Game
Beat the winter blues by cheering on a local sports team. The
Saskatchewan Rush are a professional box lacrosse team based in Saskatoon. The atmosphere at a Saskatchewan Rush game will lift your spirits and increase your energy. Additionally,
in June, Source made a special delivery to the Saskatchewan Rush Lacrosse team’s head office. Custom coloured to match the team’s green uniforms, twelve
Chromatic medium back task chairs were delivered.
