Buying Furniture Online: 5 Things to Consider

Back to Blog
With Christmas quickly approaching, you’ve probably done some online shopping this year. However, have you ever ordered an item of clothing online thinking that it will fit perfectly but when it arrives it’s the wrong size? Or maybe you were excited to wear your new pair of red shoes, but when you see them in person, they’re actually purple. Similar to shopping for clothes online, buying furniture online can be challenging as well. The following tips will help you buy the right size, style, and colour furniture for your office space. 1) Consider the size of your space. If you have a small office, ensure the furniture that you’re buying doesn’t take up the whole room. It’s important to measure your space whether you’re buying furniture online or in person. However, it’s harder to visualize how big the furniture is when you’re looking at a small picture of it online. When measuring, account for how much room you’ll need to walk around the desk, and how far away the desk needs to be from the door so it still opens. Also consider how much room you’ll need to leave for storage solutions such as filing cabinets and bookcases. 2) Consider if the finish/colour will match with your other pieces. If you have existing furniture in your office, you may want to ensure that your new purchase matches. Print out a picture of the colour-swatch or laminate finish and hold it up to objects in your space. You’ll be able to discover whether or not the tones complement each other or if they clash. 3)  Read the product description carefully. Furniture companies use varying types of materials and laminates that are not always equal in quality. Be certain that you can trust the quality before you purchase.  Source is proud to carry Performance’s Classic Series that features high-density laminate with 3 mil PVC DuraEdge detailing for an enhanced look and added durability. It’s important to read the product’s material information in order to maintain its appearance and clean it properly. 4) Read the reviews. Product reviews can be useful when determining whether or not you want to buy something. Negative reviews can be off putting, but don’t let them discourage you. If the product only has one or two undesirable comments, you shouldn’t cross it off your list. However, if the negative reviews outnumber the positive, you may regret your purchase. 5) Know the return policy. Find out how much of a headache it would be to send the furniture back if you end up unhappy with the piece. Read the company’s return policy ahead of time so that you’re not surprised if you want to return the item. At Source, we want to make your online shopping experience as enjoyable as possible. After you’ve completed an order on our website, a sales representative will contact you to confirm the details.
