Take your Kid to Work Day

Back to Blog
Launched in 1994, take your kids to work day is the most recognized career education event in Canada! Each November, grade nine students experience what it’s like to work at a job for an entire day. Moreover, the event provides students with the opportunity to explore career options and navigate their interests in a fun and engaging way. Students can visit the workplace of a parent, relative, friend or volunteer host. They can expect to learn about their role, field, sector, and organization as a whole. At Source Kelowna, Installer Ray Joliffe’s son Owen spent the day completing deliveries and installs. Ray showed Owen how to build products and ensured he had a valuable hands-on experience. Throughout take your kid to work day, Owen experienced the daily tasks of a furniture installer at Source. Furniture Installers visit the customer’s sites and assemble the office furniture according to specifications and plans. They also accurately interpret blueprints and drawings to ensure an efficient installation. Every day is unique and there is always furniture that needs to be built!
